Were you ready to Relay??

Relay for Life Penang 2010 is celebrating the culmination of its 2010 campaign at Penang's Youth Park, starting at 4pm Saturday June 5th and going overnight until 10am on Sunday June 6th

YAB Lim Guan Eng will be officially opening this year's Relay, with an opening ceremony at 5.30pm and he will join the cancer survivors on the first lap at 6.00pm.

From 4pm onwards, there will be games, live music, exhibitions, health screenings, lucky draw, face painting, and lots and lots of food! It is truly a celebration in a carnival like atmosphere.

3,000 people have signed up - and together we will celebrate and relay the sixteen hours, symbolising our on-going fight against cancer. Come and join us, it is not too late to register.

The Programme for the sixth Relay for Life in Penang will include

SATURDAY June 5th

4.00pm   Team Captains check in; registration; games, activities, exhibition, food sale, health screening, souvenirs and books sales. Live music on stage: Sweet Memories and from cancer survivors

5.20pm Arrival of YAB Lim Guan Eng

5.30pm Welcome from Dato’ William Ng Jit Thye, Chairman, National Cancer 
             Society of Malaysia, Penang Branch.

             Statement by YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng, Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang.

             Presentation of certificate to a Survivors’ representative.

             Relay for Life Song;     Dance by Survivors

6pm  YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng declares Relay OPEN and joins the survivors for the first lap, celebrating survivorship. (Chung Hwa School Band accompanies)

Relay continues, with side entertainment and food etc etc

7.45pm  Stop walking and prepare for Luminaria ceremony

8.00pm  Luminaria Ceremony (a special time to remember and reflect)

              Bag-piper, sharings and silence

8.30pm Relay resumes and wonderful Live Stage Entertainment (till 12pm)

12.00 midnight Lucky Draw 1

12.15am Interactive Computer Game via big screen

Then throughout the night, "Midnight Madness" includes lots of spot prizes for those on the track, Midnight Marshmallows, Mad games and much more.

SUNDAY June 6th

7.30am  Breakfast, games, Aerobics with Jeorge Subramaniam, Lucky Draw 2

9.15 am A Haircutting: a Disted student has raised around RM10k+ !!!!

9.45 am  All on track for the last two laps

10.00am Relay ends with a closing ceremony, including a dance from Temple of Fine Arts; Awards presented by YB Tuan Phee Boon Poh, Penang State Government Exco; Laptops drawn for Lucky Draw; and Closing remarks from Dato’ Seri Dr T Devaraj, Relay For Life 2010 – Organising Committee

If you haven't been to a Relay Penang final event, come along.

There are special moments during the sixteen hours - the first lap is walked by cancer survivors, to celebrate cancer survivorship and to inspire all of us that cancer can be successfully fought. 

And the Luminaria ceremony at 8pm (until 8.30pm) is a chance for each of us to personally remember and honour someone dear to us who has suffered from cancer. We are invited to get a Luminaria bag, complete with a beautiful candle. We can decorate the bag with personalised messages and/or drawings (there are some already designed, if you want that), and then at 7.45pm we will place the bags all around the track and light the candles. A special ceremony will help bring us together, and then there is a quiet time where we stand or kneel besides our bags and quietly remember our loved ones.

Relay is all about 'Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back' and we had input from a survivor (Celebrating survivorship), the story of our luminaria ceremony (Remember) and a lively input from one of our teams (Fight Back!).

Plus we thanked all our sponsors, and had special mock cheque presentations from our
