Relay for Life Penang 2010 has been launched

Hard Rock Hotel host a lively and rousing event

YB Phee Boon Poh officiates

Date for the culminating final 16-hour Relay for Life event in the Youth Park is June 5th and 6th

The sixth incarnation of Penang Relay for Life was launched on Sunday January 10th at Hard Rock Hotel Penang.

YB Phee Boon Poh (State Executive Councillor for Health & Welfare, Caring Society and Environment), together with Dato William Ng Jit Thye (Chairman, NCSM Penang Branch) lit the Torches of Hope and carried them down the beach to mark "the first steps of the journey of Penang's Relay for Life 2010".

75 guests accompanied them, including John Primmer, General Manager of Hard Rock Hotel Penang, and Dato' Seri Dr T Devaraj, the inspiration and key person behind bringing Relay for Life to Malaysia.

A lighting ceremony was held later in the afternoon, to 'Remember, celebrate and fight back'. People signed messages onto the Relay for Life 2010 board. A circle of hope was then formed, and Penang's Relay for Life 2010 was well and truly launched.

Earlier, Hard Rock Hotel's group, Hybrid, entertained guests with a wonderful performance of hits (dancing was to be seen!); a Lucky Draw was held, first prize being a 2 day/1 night stay in Hard Rock Hotel Penang; there were games on the beach; and short speeches from YB Phee Boon Poh, John Primmer, Dato William Ng, Madam Mui Siew Koon (on survivorship) and James Lochhead (this year's Relay Chair) outlined the meaning of Relay and the targets for this year.

Once again we are targetting an involvement of over

3,000 Penangites - so please join us. You can sign up as a team of ten, and help spread the key messages of cancer, as well as help fund-raise for much needed cancer services.

And we will all come together in our fight against cancer at Taman Perbandaran Pulau Pinang (Youth Park) on Saturday June 5th, overnight to Sunday June 6th. Our relay around a track for 16 hours non-stop is symbolic of the on-going fight against cancer, and of course we have a wonderful time, with live entertainment, games, clowns, food, lucky draws, exhibitions and health screenings.
